Oborne is a small village situtated on the banks of the river Yeo, 1 mile north-east of Sherborne. The church of St Cuthbert was built in 1862 and is very simple in style. The chancel of the original church built about 1530 still exists and is cared for by the Redundant Churches Fund. The name Oborne is derived from 'Woh' - Place at and 'burna' - the crooked or winding stream. The registers date from 1568. |
